First I'd like to thank all those who remembered to greet me on my birthday. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to reply to your emails, sms and posts here in my journal right away. I was a tad occupied that day.
Neil Gaiman was in town last weekend. He had a 3-day booksigning event and I just couldn't possibly miss it! I went to the first day of booksigning but went home disappointed as there were more than 700 people in the tent trying to get their books signed. I ended up watching fantastic 4 and having dinner with friends whom I haven't seen for the longest time. No regrets though. I gave the booksigning another shot last monday, my birthday. I almost didn't make it. I was really ready to give up and go home for a good cry when I got wind from a friend that they were prioritizing those people with numbers from the previous 2 days' events. So I went in line and got my books signed in less than an hour. How about that??
I was shameless enough to tell him that it was my birthday. He was touched that I spent my birthday lining up to have my books signed and said so. I told him the long wait was definitely worth it.
Then I thanked him for taking the time to visit us and do the booksigning. He said that it was no trouble since everyone was so nice and all that. He asked how old I was and I whispered my age to him and he went "really? you don't look it!" haha. I told him thanks. He signed my books, gave me a hug (OMG) and wished me a happy birthday. Had a couple of pics taken and went about my merry albeit dazed way. Woohoo!!!
I'm still on cloud 9. I mean it's not everyday that you get to meet and greet a writer of Gaiman's caliber and find out that he's really down to earth and absolutely nice!
And ooh...would an important event like this go without my taking pics? 'Cors not!
This is how the third and last day of the signing at Fully Booked - Gateway Mall went. Look at the crowd!
And this is during the first day of the booksigning events. Here, he's still giving his talk. The signing lasted until 2 in the morning I heard.
And here's Neil signing books with me already in line.
Weeee!!!
This is from my copy of smoke & mirrors
And from my Sandman copy.
I've yet to upload the photo taken while he was signing my books. Will do later. Meantime, check out the Neil Gaiman website and read on what he thought of his Philippine visit. Scroll through his journal until you get to the July 9-11 entries.
I left you an hilarious Numa tag.
